Trump will try to ensure some US voters cannot vote. If you find out on election day it is already too late, so vote early.
No Kings has a useful how to on voting early:
The constituency next to me is Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath.
The MP there is Melanie Ward. While I have a number of disagreements with her, it is absolutely grotesque that a primary school aged pupil felt comfortable enough to be able to tell her "You're so ugly I wouldn't even r**e you."
Which has me questioning exactly how much education will help reduce incidents like that.
As a child has either picked that up from a neanderthal adult in their life, or the online man-o-sphere/incel movement.
"I’m sure there is a lot of becoming human going on at this conference, but it is not a good place for it. Indeed, my point at this point is that the evil conference center is emblematic of the problems we face, and maybe conferences are too. If we can all agree we need more becoming-human, then there need to be better formats and spaces more conducive to the kinds of connection and development we want to see. But this is—as anyone who has ever organized such a thing knows—very difficult. How to rebuild the socialist beer halls of the workers’ movement when beer and rent are so expensive? But the problems may also be cultural. Over the last decade, I have watched a continuing dominance of discourse in anarchist, communist, and socialist spaces by professional or semi-professional writers like myself, and a decline in writing by non-professionals. This leads to a situation where there are talkers and then listeners rather than talkers and listeners. Part of this has to do with a change in literacy and in habits of reading and writing in the age of smartphones and now artificial intelligence that must be addressed directly."

Google announces Gemini 4 Argon AI model, but you can't use it yet
So much for Gemini 3.5 Pro.

@arstechnica Don't need it and don't want it. I have my own brain.
You'll see a lot of media coverage of strikes by university academic staff in the next weeks; so, whatever the immediate/local causes of industrial action, the underlying (albeit linked) factors are these:
1. the Govt. & political class no longer really value a strong university sector & treat it merely as a unprofitable personal service;
2. Universities' senior management have lost sight of the fact that their academic staff are vital to their institutions success.
Ukrainian company Fire Point reveals the long range FP-9 missile will be ready for military use by December 1.
The FP-9 has a range of 850 kilometers, enabling it to carry its 800 kilogram warhead to Moscow. The size is comparable to hitting a target with 16 FP-1 drones at once.
The missile is expected to increase destruction in Russia's capital significantly, as it hits the target at a speed of 7,900 km/h, making it very hard to shoot down.
Winter is coming.
It's going to be a winter that Russians will remember for years. Those that live through it.
“We cannot allow this evil to continue,” said one commentator after reading a CNN reporter’s description of an immigration court hearing in Harlingen, Texas on Monday, where children as young as 3 appeared without legal representation and were asked by a judge whether they wanted a “voluntary” departure from the US or a deportation order."

that said, If somebody yelled Ashley in the street, I wouldn't turn around at this point. I haven't been called that in 20 years
I should have stayed on macOS 15 and iOS 18 …
My workflows are breaking left and right and I do not like it.

#Spotted While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand:
A tiny new human is being snuggled in Mum's arms as Mum sits in a park, gazing out over a gently rushing river.
Tiny Human does not care for the view, however.
Tiny Human's fast asleep.
Blowing little milk-drunk bubbles.
A picture of total serenity.
Two gangly and tall teens (14 & 16?) are being supervised by their very short mum as they offload two kayaks from the back of a ute.*
Guffawing, goofing and making a ruckus.
Mum threatening to whip them into line with a kayak paddle.
For some reason they're not taking her seriously...
In a small country town: Two tree doctors are cutting down a lemon scented gum on the side of the road while a woman (30s?) directs traffic.
Giving everyone who passes a big jazz hands wave.
The smell of Australia wafting on the breeze in Aotearoa.
Three mud covered small humans (3-6?) wearing farm clothes and gumboots* are rampaging down a shady walking track.
Roaring instructions to each other about the BIG MONSTERS that they're running away from.
Gleeful cackles as they hide behind a clump of fern trees.
A woman (50s?) is drinking a hot chocolate, saying to a friend: "I just feel like I need to expand my horizons, you know. I feel like I need MORE..."
Her friend says with absolutely seriousness: "Have ya tried knitting?"

@mansalia You say that, but the software from 15 years ago that still works fine today is all for Windows. It’s less proprietary vs not than it is about the incentives to keep backwards compatibility. And MS is locked into eternal backwards compatibility whether they like it or not.
In Trump's United States of Propaganda, a climate scientist is fired from his professor job at West Point for pushing back against the demand that he treats climate science as a hoax, as the dear leader has commanded.
Lawsuit filed.
harsh yet accurate
Today’s gonna be the day, The New Yorker!
For a while the AI slop I was being fed was objects turning into high heels, and glass being cut with a knife and turned into rainbow-colored goo. But now I’m getting some weird video game where people laugh at a character for picking out the wrong clothes and that’s not nearly as fun.
